Two payers: when you must file the Renta, and why it often comes out to pay
Checked against its official sources on October 4, 2026.
When your income is pay from work, with one payer you need not file the Renta while it stays at or under €22,000. With a second payer that pays you more than €1,500 (another job, the unemployment benefit), the limit drops to €15,876, and the Renta often comes out to pay.
The limits
- One payer: you must file once your pay is above €22,000.
- Two or more payers, when the second and the later ones together paid more than €1,500: you must file once your pay is above €15,876.
- Two or more payers, when the second and the later ones together paid €1,500 or less: the limit stays at €22,000.
Another job counts as a payer, and so does the unemployment benefit. The limits are those of article 96 of the IRPF law, as the AEAT’s manual gives them. Other income, such as interest, has limits of its own, and an autónomo always files.
Why it often comes out to pay
Each payer works out your withholding as if it were your only income, so each one keeps back little. In the Renta your incomes are added up and the scale applies to the total, which reaches higher rates than each part alone: what was withheld falls short, and you pay the difference.
An example
€14,000 from a job and €4,000 of unemployment benefit: €18,000 in all, above €15,876, and the second payer paid more than €1,500. You must file, and you will likely pay: each payer withheld little.
Who it applies to
Employees, pensioners and anyone on unemployment benefit with more than one payer in the year.
How Taxito works it out
"Do I have to file?" lists your payers by kind, never by name, and checks both limits with your figures.

Estimates, not tax advice. Taxito never files anything for you: you check the figures and file them yourself.

Note your invoices and expenses as they come. Taxito works out your Modelo 303 and 130 each quarter, estimates your Renta, and shows where every figure comes from. For autónomos, employees, or both.
